Tactile & Braille HTE
A tactile and Braille poster series mounted on still styrene helps to provide connections with the Here, There & Everywhere (HTE) materials for additional audiences. The seven topics covered in the HTE Braille/tactile poster series include eruptions, shadows, wind, erosion, outflows, seeding and spirals. Audio files of the text from the Braille panels are also listed below.
Explosive Eruptions
As heat is injected from below, pressure builds. In the left picture, a volcano erupts and spews ash, dust and gas into the air. In the right picture, energetic eruptions are powered by jets of high energy particles as material falls into a black hole.
Light That Does Not Pass
In the left picture, Earth blocks sunlight and casts a shadow on the Moon during a lunar eclipse. In the right picture, a moon of Jupiter blocks sunlight and casts a shadow that looks like a dot onto Jupiter.
Pillars of Erosion
In the left picture, prolonged wind eroisions in deserts leave behind columns of dense rock. In the right picture, winds from bright stars blow away their surroundings to reveal dense regions of gas from which stars are forming.
From Rotation to Outlfows
In the left picture, a windmill uses rotational energy to pump water to surrounding fields. In the rights picture, a rapidly-rotating, highly-magnetic neutron star deep inside the Crab Nebula generates outflows of energetic particles.
Seeding the Environment
In the left picture, Bees distribute pollen, promoting reproduction in plants. In the right picture, a supernova explosion distributes iron, oxygen, and other heavy elements necessary for the ultimate formation of planets and their contents.
Spirals in Nature
The common spiral shape immediately brings to view the action of rotation. In the left picture, moist air spirals its way into the low-pressure center of a hurricane. In the right picture, dense spiral arms trace regions of star formatoin in the spiral galaxy M101.
Where the Wind Blows
In the left picture, a gentle breeze distributes the seeds of a dandelion across a field. In the right picture, a stream of charged particles from the Sun, called the solar wind, forces the tails of the comet to point away from the Sun.
